PENNY'S STORY

Dear FDR, here's a picture of our lovely dog Penny You called her 'Dash', she was found as a stray in Kidderminster and I had her mid April. As you can see, we are very happy with her and I wouldn't be without her for the world now.I thought you'd like to see how she's doing.

Keep up the good work!

TAFFY'S STORY

Taffy is a Border Collie who needed more than the usual care and training. When he first came into rescue we called him Mason, he was fearful of strangers and didn't hesitate to let everyone know! Last year we moved him to the wonderful calm atmosphere of Hampton Hayes kennels and under the care of Bev and Lisa he began to trust again. Then this year Mason's big break came when the Greer's came into his life. Liz immediately bonded with this confused little dog and with the support of her husband Roderick, Mason came to stay. First on the list was a name change, Mason became Taffy and his life changed as dramatically. He now is happy, contented and playful. We are so grateful to folk like the Greers who see the spirit and heart of the dog beyond the  gloss of appearance. Lucky, Lucky Taffy!

Genghis's Story

I was put in touch with Forest Dog Rescue by the Akita Welfare association following the death of my 14yr old Japanese Akita, Kato.

I must admit after 14 years I was not sure initially that I wanted to take on another dog, but after a few weeks and a suggestion that I take a rescue it all began to make sense to give another dog a loving home.

Genghis had been brought to Forest Dog Rescue as his previous owners could not cope with him in there home, he was 12 months old.

Following several telephone conversations with Marie and Geraldine, I came to see him at the kennels where he was being looked after by Becky. Within a few minutes I knew I had done the right thing, instant bond!

When I got him home, i was advised he was a little under weight at 31kg. Well no such problems now, a very big bouncy boy 45kg at 18 months.

He seems very happy in his new environment, loves walks on the beach and revelled in the recent snow.

A very big thank you for putting us together to Marie, Becky for looking after him at the Kennels and Geraldine for all the help and advice.

Keep up the good work.

Regards

Chris.

Josh's Story

8 years ago we got Josh from one of your Rescue Kennels. He had 14 homes in about 10 months, we took him in and got him dog training with Ken and he settled right down with us, really well behaved, shook paw and sat etc.

But unfortunately, I'm sad to tell you that we had him put to sleep in January because he had a Liver Tumour, we are pleased we gave him the best 8 years of his life. If we hadn’t have kept him we would never known his future

Thanks, I really value your charity and hope you keep up the good work. I know Mary Braim she was my French teacher at Bewdley High School please say hello if she is still involved.

Thanks,

Chris Edwards

Chester's Story

We adopted Chester in 2009, where he was living with Maureen

He was the first dog our family had owned, he settled in  straight away…he loves spending the days on his bed and in the garden when its warm enough.

He loves going on walks to Kinver and local woods, he is a very calm and gentle character…….until he sees a cat !!! Still working on that!

We feel very lucky to have Chester and cannot imagine life with out him. He is definitely one of the family

Pictures  show Chester on his first holiday with us at the sea side in Wales which he loved….chasing Frisbees and swimming in the sea and we cannot wait to take him back this year

Thanks to all at Forest Dog Rescue

Ted & Sadie's Story

Just wanted to say thanks for letting us give Ted and Sadie a second chance in life. Ted didn't have a very good start as he broke his leg! We didn't know if he would lose it , after his operation  to save it it turned out OK. It cost over £1,000 but it didn't stop us as we loved him. Then we decided to rescue another dog, her name is Sadie. We love them both and they are both very happy. We have a touring caravan and they always go with us, they love their life with us. Thanks again  from Martin and Pauline Hurdiss

Jodie's Story

We first met Jodie when she was just 18 months. She was really shy and nervous but sooo adorable, it was love at first sight. She was a thin little whippet with kennel cough then, but just after a few weeks she was healthy and happier

She was the best thing that ever happened to our family and we thank you always FDR

from Jodie's Family

Rufus' Story

We had been volunteering at Lem Hill Kennels to help the dogs get some exercise and some extra affection for around a year before we fell for Rufus.

We had been walking him for a while with very little affection in return, he basically let you walk him for a few minutes then let you know that it was time to go home, but then we started to notice that he was very noisy if we took out any of the other dogs before him, afterwards wasn't a problem but he always wanted to be first, then the walks got a bit longer and one day he just jumped up and licked us both, that was when we knew he had to come home with us.

Rufus had spent over 2 1/2 years in kennels and his story is that when he was found he was very overweight and very grumpy, now he is a healthy happy hound, although he does like to sleep a lot, his favourite game is football and he absolutely loves his belly being tickled.

Thanks FDR and Lem Hill

Donny's Story

I've been looking on the website and noticed the request for photos of ex Forest Rescue dogs. Please find attached a few photos of Donny who we fell in love with on Valentines day this year on a visit to Lem Hill kennels. When we met him he was called Drummer and was a quiet, nervous boy who we all took to straight away. We were told he had been rescued off an estate in Kidderminster around Christmas and as you can see from the first photo, he was very sorry for himself. Just a few months on he is a totally different dog and everyone who meets him totally adores him...even the cat! I took him on the Forest Dog Rescue Walkies for Life in March where we raised £100 for other dogs looking for a new home. He loves being around people and other dogs and is so loving and sensitive. If anyone is thinking about rehoming a rescue dog, just look at what a bit of love can do...the photos say it all!

Lots of love, Donny's new family.....Anna Tidmarsh, Moyra and John Clarke and Jet the cat!! xx

Jessy's Story

With thanks to Amy and John

We rescued Jessy a Beagle Cross in July 2007, she was being looked after by Maureen in Far Forest.

Jessy did not come without her problems, we soon discovered she had a bladder weakness, fear of fireworks and aeroplanes, and a very very stubborn nature.  But with time and patience we've learnt to deal with Jessy's stubborness, and its all been worthwhile.

Jessy is a very pretty dog, and everybody who meets her falls in love instantly.  She is very much a people's dog and loves having people visit the house, so she can lick them to pieces and have her belly rubbed.  She loves her walks, and is always q
uick to find the nearest river/lake/puddle for a swim, no matter how cold it is outside and she will play ball until her legs are shaking from the effort! All in all Jessy is a very loving and very loved dog, and we are so glad to have found her, I think she feels the same!!

Blue's Story

Blue came into Forest Dog Rescue as a thoroughly naughty young man!

He had driven his owner to distraction with his antics, he would run around the room using the furniture as spring boards as performed a "wall of death" . When Mary our Welfare Officer picked him up he was a dog out of control, he came to stay with Geraldine our Dog Behaviour Specialist, she saw what an affectionate and intelligent dog he was, he just needed boundries , rules and plenty of fun exercise. After a few weeks Blue was ready to go onto the rehome list , the very first caller interested in him was Jackie. She listened to his history and was keen to carry on the training, when Jackie, Paul and their family came to meet Blue it was love at first sight. Blue is now a happy well behaved dog and we were delighted to see him at our recent K9 event. Thank you Jackie and Paul for giving Blue such a great second chance home

If you have an ex Forest Dog Rescue Resident and would like us to post his picture here and/or tell his story please drop us an Email, we would love to hear from you
