Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to buy a Forest Dog Rescue Dog ? Forest Dog rescue doesn't sell it's dogs, what we offer is an adoption or in special cases, fostering. We do ask for a donation of at least £85. Just take a minute to realise what you are handing money over for. Your dog will be fully vaccinated and microchipped, in most cases he or she will have been neutered, Your £85 goes towards those basic expenses, bear in mind that every day that passes the cost of keeping a dog safe and well fed costs our Rescue hundreds of pounds a year, we hope that you understand that your donation doesn't "pay" for your dog, it helps all dogs that are unfortunate not to have a loving, secure home ...the dogs that become Forest Dog Rescue responsibility
What happens if things don't work out? When a dog is rehomed we try our very best to ensure you have chosen the right dog for you and your family but sometimes it just doesn't work out for everybody. Our first step is to evaluate the problem , can we offer the services of our dog behaviourist to aid you through a settling in period or is it better to just bring the dog back into our care? We do understand that sometimes it's just a case of a square peg in a round hole and we take our dogs back as quickly as possible. Your first contact is 01299 266313 My dog is Microchipped, can I register him in my name? When a dog comes into Forest Dog Rescue we have him or her Microchipped immediately, we now know that should that dog be lost in some way , we will be able to bring him back to his home at FDR. We have to be sure that the dog has settled into his new home with you before we offer the option of adding your telephone number to the registration at Petlog (the main data base of all microchipped animals). this will cost you nothing. As part of our agreement to adoption we ask that you do not transfer him into your name , this is for the dog's protection. We have a dedicated line 24hrs for any missing dog, our concern is to offer you the support to get your dog back to you as quickly as possible. It isn't about ownership...it's about the dog's safety
What do I need to buy when I first have my FDR Dog? All these questions are answered in What does my Dog need? on this website
Where can I see the Dogs available for adoption? Once you have rung our adoption line ( 01299 266313) you'll be given an appointment to go and view your chosen dog(s). Our dogs are kept at several locations suitable to their needs . You'll be introduced to the dog and you can spend time learning about him or her so you can decide if you are interested enough to go to the next stage. We need to "home check" the place where you live, we need to know that the dog you adopt is going to have a secure , happy life and so we come to your home and chat about your needs and also check that you have adequate fencing and you understand the responsibility of adopting one of our dogs. Once you pass our home check we help find the best way to bring you and your dog together, the situation may be complicated by another dog in the house and a meeting outside of your original dog's territory with the "new" dog might be advised. It may sound like a long process but believe us, we want to rehome our dogs as quickly as possible...but not at the risk of putting one of our dogs under more stress. A lot of Forest Rescue Dogs seem to be either Staffordshire Bull Terrier types or Rottweilers, is there any information on living with these breeds? Take a look at the articles SBT's & Rottweilers, it should give you a good idea of what you can expect
How can I help my dog adjust to his new home ? Take a look at the article Settling In it may help you prepare
Are there an "rules" to having a dog from Forest Dog Rescue? Take a look at our Re Homing Policy , it has the answers you need, any other questions, drop us an Email or give our volunteers on our contact page a call
